Dikoni - a house where warmth and care always await

We are the "Dikoni" Charitable Foundation from Vyborg. For more than 25 years, we have been helping children and teenagers who find themselves in difficult life situations, as well as their families. We don’t just respond to isolated requests for help – we provide ongoing support. We are a social shelter, and currently, more than 40 children live with us full-time. We are a non-profit organization and receive no government funding; we operate thanks to the regular support and donations of caring individuals.

Dikoni today is a place where 42 children live. Space is critically lacking, as the total area is only 470 square meters. Naturally, this is not enough for 42 children, especially with the need for a dining room, showers, and a shared hall. There is very little space for the children to play, study, and relax.

The Vyborg city administration has granted us a two-story building in perpetual rent, free of charge. We plan to use it not only as a children's shelter but also as a crisis center for families affected by domestic violence and for those who have lost their homes to fires.

But before we can move in, we need to carry out major renovations and restore the building.

How do we plan to organize the space?

On the first floor, we will create a cozy room for the little ones, which will include:

• a play area,

• a learning area,

• a nap room.

There will also be a classroom for teenagers, a kitchen, and a library.

The second floor will be a spacious assembly hall, which we plan to convert into living quarters for teens, so that each one can have their own personal space.

Our project aims to create a comfortable and functional environment for children. We plan to purchase:

• beds,

• tables and chairs,

• wardrobes, nightstands, dressers,

• lighting.

It is important for us that every teenager has their own space — a place where they can study, rest, and feel safe.

Any support is a contribution to a warm, caring home for children who are going through a difficult time.
